VENI CREATOR SPIRITUS
CREATOR SPIRIT, come, I pray
O'erfill Thy chosen souls this day
With Thy sweet grace from Heav'n above;
My heart's dear guest of perfect love
O Advocate, and gift of God,
Thou spring of life and fire of love,
Descend and show Thyself to be
the healing salve of souls for me.
Thy sev'nfold gifts on me bestow
As from Thy touch didst life first grow
The Father's promise now fulfil:
The gift to speak His words instil.
Ignite Thy flame of love within
My mind and heart, and then begin
Transforming me, fallen from grace,
With strength of love to see His face.
Protect me from man's ancient foe
Shield me with peace divine, to know
That with Thy guidance, all my steps
Shall yield not unto sin's dark depths.
Lead me to know and love with zeal
The Father and the Son, and kneel
'fore Thee to pledge my solemn oath
To love Thee, Spirit of them both.
O may the Father be adored
With Jesus Christ my Risen Lord,
Who send the Advocate to me:
O God of love, blest Trinity.
